The beauty of the movie Basic Instinct lies not only in its great script, directing, editing, music and acting. Few people realize this, but the scenographers, designers, architects and fashion designers did an excellent job too.
Many boring lectures at the Faculty of Architecture could be replaced by a few shots (and I don’t mean “those” shots) from this movie, and the laws of design would be easier for students to remember. The style is so cold, impractical, random and yet at the same time so calculatingly deliberate. The atmosphere will eventually get you where it wants to go. It is definitely not about family comfort, but then again, who would stuff a grandma and duvet into a Lotus Esprit.
